NIBA College of Risk and Insurance Professionals

NIBA College is a government accredited registered training organisation operating under the Australian Quality Training Framework.

We specialise in providing qualifications and professional development programs for those in the financial services industry, particularly the insurance and risk sector.

The national qualifications offered range from Certificate level for new entrants through to tertiary level programs for senior advisers and managers. NIBA College continuing professional development programs (CPD) also align with the skills and knowledge requirements for jobs at various career levels.

Programs are accessible via the NIBA College website anywhere in the world. Individuals can enrol in programs at any time of the year. Importantly, our qualifications and CPD programs meet the training compliance standards set by industry regulators such as the Australian Securities and Investments Commission. NIBA College programs for advisers and managers in licensed financial services businesses are listed on the ASIC training register

Government Accredited Programs

NIBA College complies with a range of Commonwealth, State and Territory legislation and quality standard requirements for the provision of education and training services.

This logo indicates NIBA College is a nationally accredited registered training organisation (RTO) under the Australian Quality Training Framework (Registration Number: 90140).

We are approved to deliver educational programs and award of national qualifications recognised within the Australian Qualification Framework across all States and Territories.NIBA College qualifications articulate through to government Technical and Further Education colleges and the Australian university system.

NIBA College is also approved to provide Traineeship Programs where the course fees are funded by the relevant State and/or Commonwealth Government Department of Education.

Quality Standards

NIBA College has established and implemented policies so that every program participant is able to join fully in their educational program.

NIBA College policies are intended to ensure program participants:

  • Have equity of access to educational programs;
  • Do not experience discrimination, harassment, victimisation or bullying as part of their NIBA College program;
  • Are physically safe in the NIBA College learning environment; and
  • Have access to appropriate educational resources.

We strive to manage educational activities in a way that safeguards the interests of participants. To this end we have in place a code of practice consistent with national vocational education quality standards. We have also put in place student terms and conditions that clearly indicate how we deal with program admissions, delivery and assessment practices, grievance and appeal procedures, fees and charges and refund policies.

In addition to their functional expertise, administrative staff, instructors and assessors are expected to be fair, courteous and helpful in all dealings with participants.

NIBA College Code of Practice

NIBA’s policy is to provide quality training programmes aimed at developing a high level of operational competency for insurance & risk practitioners. Our goal is to provide a career path, from entry to management level, supported by a comprehensive range of courses in specialist areas. All programs are developed to ensure compliance with current regulatory requirements and lead to the award of accredited competency based qualifications which meet the needs of students and the industry in which they work.

NIBA College strives to manage its educational activities in a way which assists it to achieve this aim and which also safeguard the interests of students. We are committed to the success of our students and endeavour to offer them support and advice conducive to learning through the provision of appropriate teaching methods and learning materials. As such it has developed a Code of Practice intended to promote good relations between NIBA College and its student body.

The objectives of the code will be achieved, and the provisions of the code will be applied, having regard to the guidelines for codes of practice for Registered Training Providers under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).

The Code is intended to promote:

  • Standards of good practice and service to be expected of NIBA College;
  • Informed and effective relationships between NIBA College and its students;
  • Efficiency in transactions;
  • Student involvement in dispute resolution; and
  • Effective resolution of disputes.

Marketing & Advertising
NIBA College will market its courses with integrity, accuracy and professionalism, avoiding vague and ambiguous statements. In the provision of information, no false or misleading comparisons will be drawn with any other provider or course.

Access & Equity
NIBA College has established policies to ensure equity of access for all students. Students are entitled to, and afforded, equal access to all appropriate educational resources, tutorial staff and career development opportunities offered through NIBA College.

NIBA College recognises the principles of flexible delivery. Courses are designed to emphasis flexibility of delivery and assessment to maximise the opportunity for access and participation by disadvantaged students.

Minimum standards for entry into all NIBA College courses are based on meeting the prescribed module and course prerequisites. While NIBA College is a part of a trade association, non-association membership does not restrict access to education programs.

Privacy
NIBA College is covered by the Federal Privacy Act and its National Privacy Principles (NPPs), which, sets out standards for the collection, use, disclosure and handling of personal information. We do not use or disclose personal information for any purpose that is unrelated to our services. We have a duty to maintain the confidentiality of our students and members’ affairs. We refer you to our web site www.niba.com.au where our Privacy Policy is clearly set out.

Student Information

NIBA College will provide accurate, relevant and up-to-date information to students prior to commencement including:

  • Admission procedures and criteria
  • Refund policy
  • Costs/fees to students
  • Certification to be issued to the students on completion or partial completion of courses
  • Competencies to be achieved by students
  • Entry requirements andprerequisites
  • Assessment procedures
  • Arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
  • Grievance and appeal procedure
  • Facilities and equipment
  • Student support services.

A copy of this Code of Practice will be provided on request.

Recruitment
Recruitment of students will be conducted at all times in an ethical and responsible manner and consistent with the requirements of the curriculum. NIBA College will ensure that student selection decisions comply with equal opportunity legislation.

Appropriately qualified staff will assess the extent to which the applicant is likely to achieve the stated competency standards and outcomes of courses, based on the applicant’s qualifications and proficiencies.

Refunds Policy
NIBA College has a refunds policy which aims to be fair and equitable. This is published on the NIBA College website and is made available to students prior to enrolment. Enrolment fees are charged on a cost recovery basis to cover training materials and assessment.

Assessment
Assessment for NIBA College courses is based on the principles of validity, reliability, flexibility and fairness. Assessment is against units of competency contained in the Financial Services Training Package and is designed to integrate the range of skills and knowledge with their practical application in the workplace.

All course trainers and assessors hold nationally accredited assessment and workplace training qualifications as well as relevant levels of vocational competencies. They maintain strict personal and commercial confidentiality standards and are bound by the NIBA College Code of Practice.Assessment practices are monitored and reviewed to ensure consistency and fairness.

Assessment may be conducted on or off the job. NIBA College has established workplace competency assessment procedures for suitably experienced financial services advisors. Assessment is offered at differing levels and addresses the set of competencies which correspond to the Financial Services qualifications offered by NIBA College.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Students who consider they have attained the required level of skills and/or knowledge for any module are able to apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL). Such skills and/or knowledge may have been gained through previous informal or formal learning, or through work and life experience, and are assessed on the same basis as for entry into courses and in line with the designated course and module outcomes.

Student Grievances/Appeals
Any complaint about personnel or a program will be treated seriously, investigated thoroughly and dealt with according to the merit of the complaint.

NIBA College has put in place review and feedback procedures so that any grounds for complaint are constantly monitored and programs improved to prevent future problems.NIBA College abides by freedom of information and the privacy legislation.

NIBA College has a fair and equitable process for dealing with student grievances/appeals.In the event that grievances cannot be resolved internally, NIBA College will advise students of the appropriate legal body where they can seek further assistance.

Grievance procedures are available for students who believe they have been unfairly treated in relation to course assessment, assessment procedures, or problems arising from completion of the course. Students who feel they have been unfairly treated are able to:

  • Contact the person immediately responsible for the course. Discuss the grievance with the instructor directly involved with the decision to fail or exclude.
  • If no satisfaction is gained from discussions with the instructor, then the candidate is to contact the designated course co-ordinator, who will discuss the problem with both parties, either together or separately.
  • Candidates who feel the matter has been unresolved have a right of appeal to a panel, which is to include a member of the candidate body, the course co-ordinator and one other, preferably a member of the NIBA National Education Committee.

Guarantee
NIBA College will honour all guarantees outlined in its Codes of Practice.

Sanctions
NIBA College understands that should it not meet the obligations of this Code or supporting regulatory requirements, it may have its registrations as a training provider withdrawn.
