Gaining entry

You can begin a NIBA College program at any age or level of experience, provided you are currently employed by a business in the financial services industry.

Eligibility to enrol in a particular course is based on the candidate’s past work experience, education and compliance needs. If you are considering enrolling in a course, and would like some further advice please contact our Qualifications Administrator on 02 9459 4309 or email qualifications@nibacollege.com.au.

If you are considering entry to Certificate II or III you also need to ensure your company is prepared to support you by authorising your supervisor or manager to provide on-the-job training and assessment as part of the program. This level of training may be eligible for Traineeship Funding.

Course delivery

Distance education courses are made up of self study modules comprising learning notes, learning activities and assessment exercises. Most modules are designed to be completed in around 12- 15 weeks but candidates can work through the learning materials at their own pace. There is a maximum period of one year to complete any module before candidates are required to re-enrol.

Student support

Although candidates study by distance, they are not alone. NIBA College provides various types of learning support including:

  • Study guides that provide advice on how to approach the course material and assessment activities;
  • Tele-tutorials with a tutor; and
  • Assistance to form study groups.

If you have any questions or need any assistance whilst you are studying with NIBA College, you can call us on 02 9459 4308 or email studying@nibacollege.com.au.

Enrolment

Once you have decided which course you want to enrol in you can send a manual enrolment form to NIBA College. If you would like to talk to someone to confirm you are enrolling in the right course you can contact us on 02 9459 4309 or email qualifications@nibacollege.com.au. It is important that you have read NIBA College's terms and conditions prior to enrolment.

Module exemptions and credits

Candidates who have completed qualifications or courses in a relevant field can apply to have these recognised for cross credits, module exemptions or entry to a higher level course. Applicants should contact NIBA College on qualifications@nibacollege.com.au to discuss this. On enrolment students must supply a verified copy of their certificate of completion and if applicable, a competency statement listing the national standards achieved.

Course assessment

Assessments are practical and are usually a combination of individual written assignment and exercises or projects undertaken in the workplace. Some programs may include online exams and on-the-job skills assessment. Candidates are provided with feedback on their assessment and allowed 3 attempts to gain competence on most assessment tasks. Results will be posted on the Notes section of NEO.

Candidates who have not been found competent within 12 months or following three attempts at the assessment will have to re-enrol and repay.

Overseas Candidates

NIBA College courses teach the core skills and knowledge relevant to those working in the insurance and risk sector across many different countries. Our training modules require students to research their local legislation and regulation requirements and take note of these when competing assessment tasks.

Australian and New Zealand Certificate III and Diploma course notes include specific legislative reference material.

Overseas candidates that wish to attain accreditation to practice in Australia as a broker or insurance adviser need to complete the Australian version of the course.

Eligible candidates interested in NIBA membership can apply for QPIB International status directly to NIBA.

Program Terms and Conditions

Learning Materials

Enrolment fees cover access to the learning materials required for the course. These will only be supplied after the enrolment has been confirmed.  The course material and the texts contain all the information required to complete the course successfully, however the use of library facilities to source suggested readings and other relevant text is encouraged.

Learning materials are available online. Printed learning material is available at a cost and becomes the property of the candidates once it is distributed, however copyright is held by NIBA.  If it is intended that the materials are used for purposes other than private study please contact NIBA College.

Assessment

The assessment must be lodged with NIBA College by the due date given at the time of enrolment. To track the progress of your submitted assignments view the Notes section on NEO.

Grading policy

Candidates receive a marker’s report on their assignment.  Assessors note a competent C or not yet competent NYC result for each assessment topic. Candidates have the opportunity to re-submit amended work for those topics marked NYC for marking.  Candidates are given 3 attempts at submission to successfully complete program/module requirements. Nominal grades may be provided in addition to the final result in some instances.

If candidates want to query their result, they may make an application in writing, within one month of the issue of results, for the final assessment to be re-marked.  The application for re-marking must include a fee of AUS$65 for one module or AUS$130 for a block of modules, which will be refunded only if the mark is amended.

Notification of Results

Results will be posted on NEO approximately 4 weeks after the submission of the final assessment. Confidentiality considerations do not allow NIBA College to give results to candidates over the phone. The fastest way to view your results or track the progress of your submitted assessments is through NEO. Please ensure you check for your results to obtain if you need to resubmit any questions as this information will NOT be sent out to you. You will receive a certificate once you complete the course.

Course Fees & Withdrawals / Transfers

Enrolments will be processed on the receipt of the enrolment fee.  Please choose your course carefully and if necessary contact NIBA College for compliance advice as refunds and transfers of enrolment can only be granted under special circumstances.

NIBA College's withdrawal policy is as follows:

  1. Refunds will only be granted under exceptional circumstances. We do not give refunds if you simply change your mind or have already made your first submission.  Applications for refunds should be sent in writing, acceptance is at the discretion of NIBA College. Refunds will incur a $65 Administration Fee.
  2. Withdrawals granted 6 months or more after the enrolment date will be eligible for 50% refund of the enrolment cost.
  3. Withdrawals granted after 9 months will not receive a refund of the enrolment fee.
  4. Enrolments may be transferred within an organisation if approved by NIBA College. Transfers will incur a $65 fee.
  5. Transfers will not be granted after 9 months from the enrolment date.

NIBA College has recognised the need for a clearly defined policy relating to termination of employment. Change of circumstances is not generally an acceptable reason for refund, however we accept that there are some special cases, for more information regarding NIBA's policy on termination of employment please contact education@nibacollege.com.au.

Discontinuation

NIBA College recommends assignments be completed within 15 weeks, however, your enrolment will be valid for 12 months from the date of enrolment.

Candidates must complete all the assessment requirements (including ALL submissions) for the program/module for which they are enrolled within this 12 month period, or they will be discontinued.  Re-enrolment will require the payment of the full enrolment fee. Please ensure you consider the possible need to resubmit, allowing a four week turnaround for marking and time to review your answers, when planning your study program.

Candidates who do not obtain a competent grade within their allotted 3 attempts will be discontinued irrespective of whether they have been enrolled for less than 12 months.  All discontinued students will need to re-enrol in the program/module and pay the full enrolment fee if they wish to complete it.

Grievance Procedures

NIBA College has established grievance procedures for candidates who believe they have been unfairly treated in relation to course assessment, assessment procedures, or problems related to completion of a course. NIBA College will address any grievances fairly and equitably within 5 working days.

In the event of a grievance or complaint candidates are advised to:

  • Contact the person immediately responsible for the course.  Discuss the grievance with the instructor directly involved with the decision to fail or exclude.
  • If no satisfaction is gained from discussions with the instructor, then the candidate is to contact the designated course co-ordinator, who will discuss the problem with both parties, either together or separately.
  • Candidates who feel the matter has been unresolved have a right of appeal to a panel, which is to include a member of the candidate body, the course co-ordinator and one other, preferably a member of the NIBA National Education Committee.

Academic Misconduct

NIBA College has procedures in place to deal with academic misconduct by candidates in order to protect the rights and interests of all candidates. A candidate will be considered to have committed academic misconduct if, after due process, they are shown to have passed off as their own work, or copied without acknowledgement as to its authorship, the work of any other person.

Where examinations or workplace assessments are conducted candidates must not:

  • Take into the session any material other than material specifically permitted by the assessment instructions;
  • Obtain from, or give to, another person any information without approval of the session supervisor;
  • Behave in any manner that is, in the opinion of the supervisor or NIBA officer, intended to provide a misleading basis for assessment.

Where the assessment supervisor believes that a candidate has committed any academic misconduct, they will immediately inform the candidate that this matter will be reported to NIBA College. In such circumstances, the candidate will be allowed to complete that assessment session.

Where an examiner believes that a candidate has committed any academic misconduct, he or she will immediately report the matter to NIBA College.  Procedures for handling academic misconduct are outlined in the NIBA College Code of Practice.

Access, Equity and Participation
