NIBA Qualification Requirements for Individual Members

If you are interested in becoming a member and would like to find out more - visit the NIBA Website.

NIBA’s Qualified Practising Insurance Broker (QPIB) accreditation has been recognised as the gold standard of insurance broking in Australia since 1992. NIBA members are recognised as having attained a high standard of professionalism and knowledge and our ongoing educational support and technical development keeps them that way.

Once you have made the decision to apply for membership, maintaining it will not be an effort, all you will need to commit to is the completion of 24 CPD points on an annual basis. NIBA can assist with your continued  professional development by offering you online courses, seminars and distance education programs.

Representatives can participate in NIBA as affiliates, associates or full members according to their qualifications and employment status.

Individuals must attain a diploma qualification to be eligible to apply for full membership and professional certification as a Qualified Practising Insurance Broker or Qualified Financial Services Representative.

Most brokers and insurance advisers undertake formal study to attain the required qualifications for NIBA membership and ASIC compliance. There are a number of different stages to this. The most popular way to start off the process of becoming a fully qualified broker or risk adviser is to undertake training in foundation advisor skills via the Certificate II or III course:

  • Representatives employed in NIBA member firms undertaking studies towards the Certificate III qualification can apply for NIBA Affiliate status.
  • Representatives who complete Certificate III broking skills and enrol in the Diploma of Financial Services or Diploma of Financial Services (Insurance Broking) can apply to be a NIBA Associate. On completion of their diploma studies Associates are able to qualify for QPIB® or QFSR® certification

Senior practitioners who undertake higher level programs such as the Advanced Diploma of Financial Services or the Graduate Diploma in Financial Services can apply for the Fellowship designation.

If you would like to discuss your application or if you are already a QPIB and would like to upgrade your accreditation to a NIBA Fellow contact our Membership Coordinator on 1800 004 306 or email mgentile@niba.com.au for further information.
