Insurance Broking Programs

Find a NIBA College program to suit your broking role

The following tables will help you to find a program to suit your job role, ASIC accreditation and NIBA College membership requirements.

You may have a choice between a short course and a full qualification which you can achieve by doing a course or a workplace assessment. Each program differs in terms of duration and cost. Even though some roles do not normally require ASIC accreditation most NIBA College programs give you the option to have this included in case you are involved in giving some level of advice.

The following rules of thumb will help you make the right choice between these options:

  • An assessment program is the quickest way to get a qualification but you must be experienced in your role to be eligible.
  • A short course is your fast track to ASIC accreditation. These courses are the first part of a full Certificate, Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualification and you can always go back and get the full qualification at a later time. You are awarded a Statement of Attainment on completion.
  • If you are a broker assistant and have plenty of office experience the Tier 2 Broking Short Course is the most suitable. If you are straight out of school or have not worked in an office before then the full Certificate III course will give you the background you need. Either way you can still join NIBA College as an Associate Member.
  • If you have some prior experience in broking or insurance direct entry to a Tier 1 course is often the best option.
  • Most brokers strive to obtain the Qualified Practising Insurance Broker designation as it is the mark of a fully qualified broker. You must complete your full Diploma in insurance broking to attain this status.
