How Coursework Programs Work

Courses are offered in distance study format.Once your enrolment has been confirmed you can access a comprehensive set of learning notes, study guides and assessment exercises online. The course material and the texts contain all the information you require to complete the course successfully. Your study notes also include suggested additional resources, readings and texts that will enhance your understanding of the subject.

The College encourages all students to take advantage of the following resources that are designed to help you maximize your learning:

  • Study guides. Read these early as they contain useful tips on how to approach the coursework and assessment activities.
  • Tele-tutorials with a College examiner. Use this resource to get valuable feedback on your assessments.
  • Learning and revision activities. Complete these as you read through the notes as they are designed to help you revise important parts of the course and prepare for your assessments.
  • Assistance to form study groups. Make contact with fellow students as studying by distance can be assisted by sharing your ideas with others.

NIBA College courses are competency based and assessments are designed to test your practical, workplace application of the skills and knowledge covered in the module. Course assessments can combine written assignments and exercises, workplace projects and activities and online tests.

Apart from the Graduate Diploma which works on a tertiary grading system, in all other courses you will receive one of two possible grades for your assessment:

  • COMPETENT (C) – indicating that all the requirements have been met; and
  • Not yet competent (NYC) – indicating that some or all aspects the assessment task have not reached the standard required.

If you receive a NYC for a module you will also receive a detailed markers report. You will have up to two further opportunities to attain a competent grade by resubmitting work in those topics indicated by the examiner. However, be aware that these additional submissions must be completed within your 12 month enrolment period.
