Requirements
If you are working in the insurance and risk industry and want an easy way to keep up to date with what is happening across the sector, then join the professional association with an Affiliate status. NIBA College Affiliate status is especially designed for those working in roles other than brokers, advisors or licensees.
You may be working in customer service, training, compliance, finance or administration to name a few areas. It doesn’t matter – if you want to be recognised and connected with your industry this level of College membership provides access to the information and resources you need.
Continuing Professional Development
Unlike practitioner members, as an Affiliate you are not required to undertake annual Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities to maintain your membership status. However, you may well be interested in attending the many training and educational sessions available as well as industry social events – all at College member discount rates.
Qualifications
NIBA College plays an important role in education for the broking and intermediary sector, providing specialised broking qualifications for everyone from new entrants right through to Responsible Managers and specialists in risk management, compliance and insurance product design and marketing. Affiliate's who are working as training managers and compliance officers can enrol at the discounted rates in programs that lead to a higher level qualifi cation in their chosen field. These programs compliment your prior studies in management and compliance with courses that have a specific application to the risk insurance industry.
Advanced Diploma in Financial Services
The Senior Professional Assessment 3 (Compliance Manager) program is specifi cally for compliance managers who want to gain a higher level qualifi cation that recognises their experience in a broking or insurance organisation. It covers skills and knowledge such as:
- interpreting and managing statutory, legislative and regulatory obligations for organisational compliance
- developing, implementing and monitoring compliance systems
- managing the staff training function within an organisation
- managing financial systems within an organisation
- service guidelines and implementing quality systems within an organisation
- reviewing compliance and service support systems

Graduate Diploma of Financial Services
The Graduate Diploma is a university level study program and is most suitable for experienced offi cers who have undertaken prior studies at the Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Degree level. The core unit of study, Management of Operational Risks, is designed specifically for those working in compliance related roles and covers topics dealing with the management of operational risks including managing disclosure obligations and developing and implementing compliance systems. The unit also explores the compliance manager role, understanding compliance cultures in risk insurance organisations, and managing organisational compliance and capacity issues.
Candidates can study this as a stand-alone unit and receive a Statement of Attainment on completion or select one other unit from the list below to complete the full Graduate Diploma.

NIBA offers a comprehensive range of services to Affliates.

The application process for NIBA membership takes approx eight to ten weeks.
Applications are considered very carefully to ensure that not only government requirements are met, but also NIBA's own strict conditions.
Step 1: Apply online
Step 2. Business Reputation Check Applicant names are listed in the NIBA Gazette. If no objections are received the application is referred to the NIBA Divisional Committee in the applicant’s State. Once the Divisional Committee approves the application it is referred to the NIBA Board for final approval.
Step 3. Confirmation of Membership Offer On approval of your documents by the Registrar, state divisional committee and the NIBA Board, a membership confirmation and offer will be sent to you. Upon receipt of your payment of fees a membership pack which includes NIBA College information and a membership certificate will be forwarded.
