CGU NIBA Professional Excellence ScholarshipsCGU is committed to directly assisting brokers to develop their careers to the highest level of professional practice and recognition. As part of this commitment, CGU has partnered with NIBA to provide ten full scholarships to complete the Certified Professional Insurance Broker (CPIB) program. The CPIB is a practical, hands-on professional development experience designed to promote excellence in our industry.
Throughout this unique program, participants can explore a range of new ideas and experiences, which they can tailor to their individual interests and career goals. Participants will commence their studies from June 2012 and must undertake a minimum of two modules per year to maintain their scholarship.
To apply for the CGU/NIBA Scholarship:
1. You will need to write a 500 word submission outlining what professionalism means to you and how you feel the CPIB Program will improve you as a broker. 2. You must also have held the NIBA QPIB designation for a minimum of two years; and 3. You must have a minimum of six years’ experience as a practicing insurance broker
The CPIB program covers eight modules each providing ten hours of CPD. By doing two or more modules a year, a broker can attain a significant number of points towards their annual CPD requirements. These modules cover the client management and leadership skills that have been identified in research with NIBA members as the most useful areas of ongoing professional training for qualified brokers and include:
1. Professional practice 2. Broking ethics 3. Networking & collaboration 4. Leadership 5. Broking and technical expertise 6. Managing relationships 7. Sales & marketing 8. Presentation & persuasion
Upon the completion of this program, graduates will be eligible for the award of the NIBA membership designation, Certified Professional Insurance Broker (CPIB) in recognition of their upgraded skills and knowledge to a higher professional level.
Importantly, completed CPIB modules can be used as credit towards the higher level national qualification, Advanced Diploma of Insurance Broking.
Applications close on 31 May 2012 and scholarship recipients will be notified by the end of May 2012. For further information and to apply, please contact Caroline Campbell. Email: ccampbell@niba.com.au or call (02) 9459 4313.

Please attach your 500 word outline on what professionalism means to you and how you feel the CPIB Program will improve you as a broker.
Professionalism to me means that I can offer my clients a competent service but something beyond the basic broking service.
I want to do professional development that will help me really grow in areas like client management – not just the same old product seminars. I think that all the modules will be beneficial and help me get to a really confident level of broking where I can work with more interesting clients. One of the things I look forward to is learning about some of the non- insurance topics particularly networking and presentation skills. I have never felt really comfortable with these areas and the CPIB seems to be a very relevant and practical way to get the skills I need.
